World leaders in children's health.
President's Office
President's Message
The Hospital for Sick Children, affectionately known as SickKids, opened its doors in 1875 when there were no medical facilities specifically designed to cater to the needs of the children of Toronto.
Michael O'Mahoney, President
Now, over 130 years later, we are a world leader in children's health research and care. Since its establishment in 1972, SickKids Foundation has been proud to be the hospital's partner in all its endeavours; we strive to engage the community in meaningful philanthropy that will support scientific advances and improve the lives of children and their families in Canada and around the world.
In addition to supporting SickKids, the Foundation is supporting children's health nationally. Through our National Grants Program, SickKids Foundation invests $4 million annually across Canada to paediatric research, focusing on issues important to children's health that have not been addressed elsewhere.
In September 2005, our Foundation launched the Believe campaign that has a goal of raising $500 million by 2011. This campaign was launched in order to support the costs associated with SickKids' research and care that are not covered by government funding. Believe is setting a new Canadian precedent – it is the single biggest hospital fundraising campaign in our country's history!
The Foundation is relying on this campaign and on private donations to ensure that SickKids has the best facilities, the best people, and the best space, which is needed to conduct groundbreaking research and provide leading-edge care. SickKids donors are the Foundation's partners, enabling the organization to make possible its vision: "Healthier Children. A Better World."™ The support of generous members of our community – friends like you – is at the core of what makes SickKids a world-leader; philanthropy supports the innovative and groundbreaking research conducted by our clinician-scientists, the quality education and training that makes SickKids the largest paediatric "university" in Canada, and the superior care and treatment our patients receive on a daily basis.
I hope that you will consider joining us in a campaign that aspires to help provide every child with an opportunity for health and well-being. I am certain that, together, we can realize a world in which every child is healthy.
Thank you for your continued support.

Michael O'Mahoney
President, SickKids Foundation
