Our Learners

Education has always been an important part of life at SickKids. The SickKids Learning Institute consolidates, trains and educates staff while facilitating opportunities for knowledge translation. The range of educational activities at SickKids is broad, deep and diverse. It takes place locally but extends nationally and internationally.

• All staff physicians hold a faculty appointment at the University of Toronto.
• The SickKids Learning Institute trains more than 2,300 professionals annually.
• SickKids has formal partnerships with more than 18 colleges and universities.
• SickKids is home to the largest, most comprehensive paediatric medical and surgical training program in Canada, which attracts each year more than 200 of the best and brightest residents, fellows and postgraduate medical trainees from around the world.
• Continuing professional development opportunities, supported by the Learning Institute's Conference Coordination and Management Service, are delivered to more than 3,000 learners.
• Learning and orientation programs are offered to more than 6,000 staff on an annual basis.
• Over the last year, SickKids received 1.1 million visits to its patient and family education site AboutKidsHealth.ca. Visitors to the site come from more than 160 countries and from 450 Canadian sites each month.
