Diagnosing faster means Caleb can play piano and basketball.

Meet Caleb

Early diagnosis at SickKids, via genetic testing, saved Caleb’s life (and diagnosed his mother). He has a very rare disease – Ornithine Transcarbamylase (OTC) Deficiency, which has meant that he has needed a liver transplant. Diagnosing Caleb faster means that today he’s playing piano, and working on his basketball free throw.

Treating smarter means Bella can explore the world.

Meet Bella

Bella has multiple conditions: Pitt Hopkins Syndrome, vision impairment, Autism, and developmental delay. By sequencing her DNA, and discovering the rare gene that underlies her conditions, SickKids is able to treat Bella smarter. So she can get out and discover the world with her service dog, Ms. Dolly.

Meet Atley

Predicting better keeps this dancer on his toes.

Meet Atley

Atley is Brugada gene Scn5a positive, and has a pacemaker to control his heart rhythm. Predicting better for Atley meant using genetic testing to identify his condition, and then, potentially, using Artificial Intelligence to analyze his pacemaker data – to prevent heart problems as this young ballet dancer hones his technique.
