Innovators gathered for the first time in person since Jan 2020 at Hotel X for a beautiful night of networking and learning about Precision Child Health at SickKids.
During this Behind-the-Scenes tour, Innovators were given an exclusive tour of a lab in the Peter Gilgan Centre for Research & Learning to see the first-hand impact genetics research has across different areas of children's health.
At the exclusive upper level of Kasa Moto, Innovators heard from Canadian Olympic gold medalist Dara Howell and had the opportunity to learn about the Centre for Genetic Medicine with some fun, hands-on activities.
Innovators were treated to stunning city views at the new Globe & Mail Centre while officially launching 2018’s theme of ‘Genetics and Genetic Research’. Globe health columnist, André Picard, moderated a panel discussion with SickKids team members on the topics of genetic research, ethics, and the future of whole-genome sequencing.
At the annual Vote & Celebration event, Innovators celebrated five years of the program and over $1M invested to-date by hearing an update from all clinical leads that have received Innovators project funding. Innovators then voted, Dragon’s Den-style, to invest $365k in the SickKids-Ghana Initiative Nurse Training Program to fund the training of 36 nurses.
Innovators mixed and mingled at a trendy, downtown tech space while learning about how SickKids is building healthcare capacity in Ghana and the Caribbean through a mock telemedicine demo and interactive learning stations.
Steven Salm hosted Innovators at his trendy Planta restaurant where members heard from Dr. Stan Zlotkin, Chief, Centre for Global Child Health on the work SickKids is leading globally. We were also joined by patient ambassador Stephanie, who shared her incredible journey of resilience.
Alana and Lenny Drimmer opened their beautiful home to Innovators to kick off 2017’s theme of ‘Partner for Better Care’. Jonathan Erlichman, co-host of BNN’s Business Day, moderated a panel discussion on the topic of innovation and entrepreneurship featuring Wealthsimple’s Michael Katchen, SickKids’ Dr. Shaun Morris and Sentaler’s Bojana Sentaler.
At the annual Vote & Celebration event, Innovators heard from, Dr. Jim Drake for an update on the surgical robotics tool Innovators funded in 2015. Innovators then voted, Dragon’s Den-style, to invest in several demonstration projects within the MPA – unique projects that bring together SickKids Staff and external partners to address the unique challenges of caring for children with both a mental and physical illness.

Hosted at a private loft in Yorkville, the April 2016 event featured a talk by Lisa Lisson, SickKids Foundation Board Member and President, FedEx Express Canada. Lisa was joined by patient ambassador Jessica, who shared her SickKids journey and highlighted the importance of why Innovators supported the Medical Psychiatry Alliance (MPA).
